Product Details

This unique Sugar Cane denim is woven with original yarns blended with 50% cotton and 50% sugar cane fibres from Okinawa. Ryukyu-Ai indigo and regular indigo are combined and result in dark, reddish blue denim. The patch is made of python leather, and the logo is painted in lacquer. The silhouette is based on the Sugar Cane's 1947 iconic cut, a faithful reproduction of Levi's 501XX 1947, which features a regular straight fit with a very high rise and a good amount of space in thighs, knees, and calves, thus achieving a very comfortable, classic fit.

The Sugar Cane and cotton blend fabric will become a great fading after everyday wear when it's broken in. This is because sugar Cane has studied and paid the closest attention to the entire process of creating one of the most unique fabrics from all Japan, from spinning, weaving and dyeing to stitching. Accordingly, their Okinawa denim has been loved and appreciated by many denim heads. In addition, sugar Cane was the first brand in the world to produce a selvedge-denim fabric made from woven cotton yarns and sugar cane fibres.

The weaving process is slow and time-consuming, with only a limited amount of fabric produced per day on vintage Toyoda shuttle looms. The weft is then driven in with greater force, causing the weft yarns to overlap, resulting in an uneven and neppy hairy surface. Sugar Cane continues to produce this kind of vintage-based denim today while maintaining old machines in top condition.

Although Sugar Cane was born in Japan, its spirit and creation are true to proper American manner from the experience learned at the Army base. By mainly utilizing the denim materials, the ultimate American style symbol, the label has been manufacturing true workwear since 1975. Sugar Cane comprise a blend of traditional dyeing techniques and styling with innovation and creativity in textile development. Their jeans represent the higher end of Japanese selvedge denim.
